Many enjoy a renewed life after graduation, as demonstrated by recent TV and news articles on outdoor-oriented ventures from the 2015 capstone course taught by Still Water Co-Director Joline Blais. From drone classes for high school students to mobile apps to help forestry workers, these capstones have expanded outside of the classroom and into the nearby woods and skies overhead.

DML Competition LogoStill Water Senior Researcher John Bell and UMaine’s new Innovative Communication Design classes have been selected as a winner in stage one of this year’s Digital Media+Learning competition Badges for Lifelong Learning, an initiative of the Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Advanced Collaboratory (HASTAC) and the Mozilla Foundation with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

Still Water Senior Researcher John Bell has been selected to take part in the Mozilla+Journalism news lab, the second round of this year’s MoJo Innovation Challenges.  Over the next month he’ll be one of sixty participants applying the knowledge of people like Christian Heilmann, Burt Herman, Aza Raskin, John Resig, and others to the problem of redefining journalism for the open web era.  You can follow his progress on his blog.
